Man City handed triple injury boost for Liverpool: New Haaland update
Erling Haaland, Ederson, and Nathan Ake seem likely to be fit and ready for Manchester City‘s upcoming match against Liverpool this weekend.
Haaland’s fitness has been a prominent topic of discussion leading up to the high-stakes Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The Norwegian striker faced concerns after sustaining another twisted ankle issue during Norway’s Euro 2024 qualifying win over the Faroe Islands last week.
As a result, he withdrew from the squad for their draw against Scotland on Sunday. Despite the injury, Norway’s team doctor, Ole Sand, reassured that it was not a serious issue, but Haaland experienced significant pain with some limitations in his function and movement.
This is not the first time Haaland has faced ankle troubles, having previously twisted it in the 6-1 victory over Bournemouth earlier in the month.
Despite going off at half-time in that match, he quickly returned for the Champions League win against Young Boys BSC.
In a positive development, it appears that Haaland is set for a speedy recovery once again.
Both Manchester City and the player himself shared a photo of him training on the grass at the Etihad Campus amid cold and wet conditions on Thursday, indicating his readiness for the upcoming clash with Liverpool.
Goalkeeper Ederson, who had withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to a foot injury sustained in the high-scoring match against Chelsea, was observed in training on Thursday.
Nathan Ake, who missed the Chelsea encounter with an unspecified knock and withdrew from the Netherlands squad, was also seen training.
Rodri appears to be fit after being excluded from the Spain squad due to “discomfort,” but Mateo Kovacic is likely to miss the Liverpool match due to a recurring quad issue that led to his withdrawal from Croatia duty.
Pep Guardiola continues to be without key players such as Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones, and there are lingering injury doubts surrounding Matheus Nunes and Sergio Gomez.
On the Liverpool side, Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic will remain unavailable against City.
However, Liverpool received a quadruple injury boost with Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Joe Gomez all returning to training.
Additionally, Alexis Mac Allister is back from suspension, and Kostas Tsimikas is fit after an early withdrawal from the Greece squad during the week.
