Pochettino rates Chelsea player one of the best in the world
Mauricio Pochettino has expressed high praise in his recent evaluation of Reece James at Chelsea.
It’s widely acknowledged that the 23-year-old holds a crucial role at Stamford Bridge, now serving as the team captain.
Despite being a senior figure within the squad, James has faced challenges related to his fitness.
Having participated in just six games across various competitions this season, there’s optimism that the two-week international break has afforded him additional time to attain full fitness.
According to Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT, there is speculation that England manager Gareth Southgate might harbor some resentment toward James for declining an international call-up this month.
Mauricio Pochettino praise
The head coach of Chelsea has confidently asserted that Reece James is currently among the best players globally.
This statement finds support in the tangible impact James has on the team’s performance whenever he takes the field for the Blues.
“We are caring a lot about him because I think he is a great talent. For me, one of the best players in the world,” Pochettino told beIN SPORTS Asia.
“And now when you touch and feel it up close you say, ‘Wow, what an amazing player.’ And I think he is a player that everyone respects in the club, the teammates, the staff, everyone. And I think he has a very good personality.
“From outside he was always a player that I liked, but now I think we are close. I cannot say I’m in love because you can misconstrue my words. But I think you know, he’s unbelievable.”
Chelsea remains undefeated in the three league games where Reece James has been in the starting lineup this season, a noteworthy achievement given that these matches were against formidable opponents like Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City.
James, an energetic full-back, demonstrates robust and aggressive defensive skills. Simultaneously, he significantly contributes to the team’s offensive play, posing a constant threat in attack.
Given Mauricio Pochettino’s historical success with full-backs, having James as an option in the squad aligns perfectly with his tactical preferences.
Earlier this month, Paul Merson, speaking via X, lauded James as one of the best, particularly highlighting his performance against Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku.
If James can maintain his fitness and availability, Chelsea supporters have reason to be optimistic about their prospects of climbing the league table during the winter period.
