Zinedine Zidane and Luis Enrique Chelsea to update emerge amid Todd Boehly’s Graham Potter stance
Graham Potter’s position as coach of Chelsea has been significantly weakened in the last 12 days.
The defeat against Tottenham last weekend was the most recent letdown in a string of unsatisfactory performances by his team.
The Blues have won just one out of their last 11 matches in all competitions, making it unlikely they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
They are closer to being relegated than making it into the top four. Additionally, they are at risk of being eliminated early from European competition after a 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg.
SportsDias has learned that, despite the mounting pressure, Todd Boehly and the board still back Graham Potter. Nonetheless, there is significant worry among the fanbase as a crucial period of the season approaches.
Previous reports had indicated that the matches against Leeds United and Dortmund would be pivotal for Potter and his prospects in west London.
While some sources are claiming that Boehly will give Potter additional time to improve the club’s fortunes, potential replacements for the former Brighton manager are still being mentioned.
As per a report from Spanish publication Sport, Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane are both being considered as potential replacements for Potter, if a decision is made to let him go.
Enrique, who recently left his position as the coach of the Spain national team, is said to be among the contenders. Spain was eliminated in the round of 16 at the World Cup during his tenure.
Enrique had a successful stint as a coach at Barcelona, winning two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and three Copa del Rey trophies. On the other hand, Zidane has been connected with most top managerial jobs, but has been unemployed since his departure from Real Madrid in 2021.
According to reports, the Frenchman was waiting for the opportunity to lead the France national team after the World Cup. However, Didier Deschamps has agreed to continue managing Les Bleus, making Zidane’s prospects uncertain.
Boehly would not have to pay any compensation fees for either manager, as they are currently without a club.
However, he faces a difficult choice as both have been linked with the Brazil national team job previously
