“You can ask him that” – Robert Lewandowski breaks silence on Lionel Messi not voting for him at the Best FIFA awards

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has spoken out about Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi ignoring him at the FIFA Best FIFA awards.

On Monday, Lewandowski was named the winner of the Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2021. (17 January). Messi and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah were beaten to the award by the Pole.

Messi’s top three choices for the award made headlines after the ceremony. The 34-year-old forward named PSG teammate Neymar as his favorite to win the award, ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.

Surprisingly, Messi overlooked Lewandowski and Salah in his top three choices for the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

Many in the game were taken aback by the Argentine forward’s decision to ignore the Pole, especially after praising him at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in November.

Lewandowski, who won the Best FIFA award, explained that he didn’t have much to say on the subject.

The Bayern Munich star also revealed that he voted for the PSG player in second place for the award. During a press conference, he stated:

“You can ask him that. I think he voted me second at the Ballon d’Or, this time it was different. I can’t say more. I voted him second [for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award].”

Lewandowski, on the other hand, has named Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho as his top pick to win the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award. Messi came in second, and Cristiano Ronaldo came in third, according to the 33-year-old.

For the second year in a row, the former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper has won the Best FIFA awards. After being disappointed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in November, he will be overjoyed to have won the award.

On Monday, Robert Lewandowski won the Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2021 with 48 points. Lionel Messi of PSG finished just four points behind the Poland international.

Third-placed Mohamed Salah received 39 votes in the Best FIFA awards. Karim Benzema of Real Madrid finished fourth with 30 points, while N’Golo Kante and Jorginho each had 24.

Lewandowski’s victory on Monday equaled Ronaldo’s record tally of two Best FIFA Men’s Player awards. He is unlikely to be concerned about being overlooked by Messi now that he has received the award.
