Xavi picks out shock 18y/o Manchester United star as a threat for Barcelona to worry about
Manchester United have a poor record against Spanish opposition, but they won their most recent match against a La Liga team, 1-0 at Real Sociedad.
Alejandro Garnacho, a Madrid-born teenager, scored the game-winning goal, and Xavi has identified him as a threat to Barcelona in the upcoming Europa League matches.
During his press conference prior to the first leg, Xavi expressed his admiration for Manchester United’s attack and stated that he would attempt to game plan for them.
He also praised United’s leading scorer Marcus Rashford, who has already scored 21 goals this season.
Xavi told his press conference reported by Barcelona’s website: “We will need intensity and rhythm. The Premier is a physically demanding competition and we’ll have to show that we can cope with that.”
“They make very quick transitions with players like Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho.
“They have a very strong counter-attack and we will need players who can stop those sprints. Marcus Rashford is one of the most dangerous and in-form players in Europe.”
Rashford has appeared unstoppable since the World Cup, whereas Jadon Sancho has previously scored at the Camp Nou.
The Argentine talent has regained his confidence after scoring a goal for United in their weekend victory over Leeds.
This season, Barcelona began in the Champions League, but they finished third in their group and were relegated to the Europa League.
Xavi claims that his team has something to prove against United, as they feel the need to demonstrate their credentials in Europe.
He said: “We weren’t good enough in the Champions League and that’s why we’re here.
“We are very motivated and the stadium will be full tomorrow and we have to rise to the occasion. It is an important challenge for us to show that we are able to compete in Europe.”
