‘Worst comment I’ve heard in my life’: Rio Ferdinand taken aback by Carragher’s Liverpool and City claims
Rio Ferdinand has been discussing the argument that Manchester City vs. Liverpool is the greatest rivalry in Premier League history on his YouTube channel.
City vs. Liverpool has always been a tremendous rivalry, but controversy erupted earlier this year when Jamie Carragher declared in his Telegraph column that it is the greatest the Premier League has ever seen.
Ferdinand, of course, was involved in rivalries during his time at Manchester United, warring with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, and the former centre-back can’t get his head around the idea of City vs. Liverpool being the biggest rivalry.
Ferdinand and his co-hosts were talking about the championship race.
“If Liverpool only end up with a League Cup, I’m going to be unbearable. The greatest rivalry in the history of the Premier League they said. One Premier League title they’ve got,” Ferdinand’s Manchester United supporting co-host said.
“That was the worst comment. Who said that comment? The greatest rivalry in Premier League history? That is the worst comment I’ve heard in my life, it was an awful comment,” Ferdinand said.
Ferdinand may argue that City vs. Liverpool does not compare to prior Premier League title clashes, but we believe there is a case to be made.
Indeed, while Liverpool has only won one league title so far, the fact that they’ve come so close to beating City with great point totals is credit to the skill on display.
When it was Arsenal vs. Manchester United for the title, anything over 80 points was generally enough to win the league; nowadays, that’s only good enough for a distant third place.
Ferdinand may disagree, but this could be the greatest rivalry in Premier League history.
