Wolves now ‘seeking legal action’ over Arsenal’s contentious Marquinhos signing
Wolves are apparently considering legal action in response to Arsenal’s signing of Brazilian teenager Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.
The Gunners are thought to have agreed a £2.5 million transfer fee with the Brazilian club, and an announcement is likely in the coming days.
The 19-year-old reportedly signed a contract with Arsenal and travelled to London for a physical.
Marquinhos, who can play in the middle or on the wing, is one of Brazil’s most highly rated young players.
He has represented his country at the youth level and has appeared in 41 senior games for Sao Paulo, scoring four goals and assisting on three others.
Sao Paulo had hoped to keep Marquinhos on their books after signing a five-year contract with him in 2019.
Sao Paulo had hoped to keep Marquinhos on their books after signing a five-year contract with him in 2019. However, due to a FIFA regulation, his contract will expire this summer and he will be free to sign with another team, which is expected to be Arsenal.
However, according to Yahoo Sports in Brazil, Wolves and Marquinhos had agreed on a pre-contract deal.
According to reports, Wolves have approached a legal company in Brazil to take action against the player for allegedly breaching the terms of his contract with the Gunners.
Legal action against Arsenal and Sao Paulo, according to the Daily Mail, are their other alternatives. According to the Mail, Marquinhos’ contract will expire on July 12, with his new contract at Wolves expected to begin on July 14.
“Sao Paulo still hasn’t received the money from Arsenal, but it’s calm,” a source told Yahoo Sports in Brazil. “The agreement has legal guarantees and the player has already undergone medical examinations.”
Marquinhos’ reported move to the Emirates has caused a bit of stir in Brazil. “This is absurd,” said World Cup winner Vampeta when asked about the transfer. “They’re going to lose Marquinhos to Arsenal for £2.5m.
“I don’t know if you remember that I used to say I watched Audax’s academy games, Marquinhos in the U15s, he used to already make the difference. I said here on the show, ‘There’s an U15 at Sao Paulo, Marquinhos’ – now he’s going to leave on a silver platter.”
Rogerio Ceni, the head coach of Sao Paulo, is also claimed to be enraged by the club’s decision to let Marquinhos leave. The youth was only played little during the 2021-22 season, but he was apparently set to play a key role at Sao Paulo the next season.
After failing to qualify for the Champions League, Arsenal is looking to strengthen their roster. . “On a recruitment standpoint I will always defer to Edu and Mikel but I know they have a blueprint of the type of player and specific positions that we need to reinforce heading into the summer,” wrote club chief Josh Kroenke in his programme notes.
“I’ll defer to them and support them in every way that we can in their pursuit of elevating the quality of the squad and also ensuring that we have the right mentality of player coming in. We only want players who are passionate about Arsenal Football Club.”
