William Saliba reveals what Arteta told them after Everton defeat
Arsenal’s loss to Everton at the weekend, their second of the Premier League season, was especially disappointing given Everton’s position at the bottom of the standings.
The loss was somewhat mitigated by Manchester City’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur the next day, but the mood immediately following the Everton loss was negative.
William Saliba, speaking after the game, relayed what Mikel Arteta had said to them in the locker room.
“He said that what was missing today was determination,” Saliba revealed (translated by @ArsenalBarclays).
“On the pitch, Everton wanted it more than us, they were more hungry to win. We could have conceded even more. We are even happy to have conceded only one goal.
“We must take this match as an example, we know it’s not over and there are still a lot of matches to play and we can already bounce back quickly at home next week.”
This season, Arsenal has generally dealt with setbacks very well.
They responded to their loss to Manchester United with a victory over Zurich, to their loss to PSV with a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, and to their loss to Brighton with a victory over Wolves.
This is the first time the Gunners have suffered consecutive defeats, albeit in separate competitions.
This weekend, they must defeat Brentford in order to break out of their mini-slump.
