William Saliba was overjoyed after being serenaded by Arsenal fans both during and after the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Following a routine victory on the south coast, Mikel Arteta’s side surged to the top of the Premier League table.

The French defender even scored his first goal for the Gunners, a sweet first-time strike from the edge of the box that sealed the points for the Londoners, who had led 2-0 at the break thanks to a brace from Martin Odegaard.

Despite the fact that Arsenal’s new captain, Odegaard, stole the show in the first half, it was Saliba who received the most love from the visiting fans.

The Gunners fans successfully adapted The Champs’ hit ‘Tequila’ to include Saliba’s name, and the catchy tune ended up providing the backdrop for the one-sided clash.

After being serenaded again by the travelling fans, a delighted Saliba was seen smiling at the end of the match, and Arteta revealed after the game that the tune had gone down well with the rest of the Arsenal squad as well.

Sky Sports quoted the Spaniard as saying: “The boys were already singing it in the dressing room [after the game today]. It is a good song.”

Saliba’s stunning second-half strike capped off a sensational start to the season for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal supporters have had to wait three years for a glimpse of the highly rated defender, who has been loaned out to France three times since joining the London club.

After a stunning season at Marseille last year, Saliba has finally been integrated into Arteta’s first-team plans – and he has looked the part for Arsenal, who are now alone at the top of the Premier League after three consecutive victories.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith heaped more praise on Saliba after the game, and he also praised Arteta for being brave enough to play the youngster ahead of Ben White, who moved to the Emirates from Brighton in a £50 million deal last summer.

Smith told Sky Sports: “Saliba has been welcomed into the fold by the players and the fans. He would have gained a lot of confidence in France and especially making his debut for the national team, when really he couldn’t find a place at his club.

“He’s come back, Arteta has shifted Ben White to right-back and we will see if that continues. Fair play to Arteta.”
