Luke Shaw, a defender from Manchester United, was sent off during England’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against Italy. Gareth Southgate selected Shaw, along with Harry Maguire, to begin the game, which the Three Lions won 2-1.
Declan Rice scored first in the 13th minute, followed by a goal from Harry Kane from a penalty kick. Southgate’s team appeared to be in control until Mateo Retegui scored, causing a tumultuous situation.
Shaw’s expulsion made it harder for England to hold onto their lead. The Manchester United defender was given two yellow cards in just 54 seconds.
The first was for deliberately wasting time in an effort to protect his team’s narrow advantage.
The second was the result of a reckless challenge on an Italian player. Maguire was injured and on the ground, and with Italy counter-attacking, Shaw fouled his opponent to interrupt the play and allow England to regroup defensively.

After Shaw’s ejection, Southgate had to make changes to the lineup, resulting in Phil Foden, who had only been substituted in 12 minutes prior, being removed from the game.
Kieran Trippier was then substituted in to fill the void in defense. Unfortunately, Shaw’s expulsion means that he will be unavailable for the next match against Ukraine.

The suspension of the player is unquestionably good news for Erik ten Hag and United fans. As the business end of the season approaches, the Red Devils, who are still active in three competitions, will face an onslaught of matches.
With Shaw now anticipated to return to Carrington earlier, he will be able to rest up ahead of United’s hectic April schedule, which features nine games.
The first of United’s nine games in April will be away to Newcastle on April 2 – a high-stakes contest that could prove pivotal in the race for the top four.
