Why Jorginho shouted at Ben White in Arsenal’s dramatic comeback vs Aston Villa

Just three weeks ago, it would have been unbelievable to suggest that an away section of Arsenal supporters would be cheering for Jorginho.

However, after the match at Villa Park, that is exactly what occurred. Some of the Gunners’ fanbase had expressed disappointment when the Italian midfielder was signed instead of Moises Caicedo, the midfield engine they were hoping for. Jorginho, with his experience and seasoned style, was not a popular choice for many.

Nevertheless, he has demonstrated in the past two matches just how clever a signing he really is.

The impact of Thomas Partey on Mikel Arteta’s team is immense, and his absence this season has been highly noticeable. Whenever he has been unable to complete a match, Arsenal has suffered a defeat. Hence, Arteta found it crucial to sign a player who could provide adequate cover for Partey at a higher level than the current options of Mohamed Elneny or Albert Sambi Lokonga.

In the past two matches, Jorginho has demonstrated that he is up to the task. He was impressive against Manchester City, and he continued his good form at Aston Villa.

Jorginho’s ability on the ball is noteworthy, as demonstrated by his quick footwork in the build-up to Bukayo Saka’s goal. However, his consistent high standards on the pitch are equally impressive.

Jorginho is an experienced midfielder who communicates well on the pitch and is not hesitant to point out mistakes when he notices them. When Ben White was not in the right position to receive a pass early in the game, Jorginho quickly corrected him with a vocal rebuke, following which White went on to have an outstanding match.

Even though scoring the winning goal was an extraordinary achievement for Jorginho, it was just the icing on the cake for his excellent performance that afternoon. Even Arteta, his coach, was amazed by his goal, which is something he had not seen Jorginho do before.

“I certainly didn’t see that quality of him – scoring from deep,” the Spaniard said after the game. “The biggest quality he has is that he makes other people look better, better than what you actually are. He’s made a huge impact already on the boys and the staff and hopefully our fans. I hope people can see that because I thought he was tremendous today.”

Assessing Edu’s work in the January transfer window would only be possible at the end of the season. The success of the transfer window will be measured by whether Arsenal wins the league or not. However, one thing that is certain is that Edu has transformed an area of weakness in the Arsenal squad into one of strength. This transformation could be critical to their chances of winning the title, especially since Thomas Partey could be out for an extended period.
