Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka was voted eighth in the Ballon d’Or Kopa trophy rankings, falling short of Barcelona’s Gavi.

The Ballon d’Or award ceremony includes the presentation of seven trophies, including the Kopa Trophy for the best performing player under the age of 21.

Saka was nominated for the award alongside England teammate Jude Bellingham and other top European players.

The Kopa Trophy has been awarded by France Football since 2018, with previous winners including Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, Matthijs de Ligt, and Pedri.

The Arsenal forward was nominated for the same award last year but lost to Barcelona’s Pedri, who is not on this year’s list of nominees due to injury issues throughout the 2021/22 season.

Bellingham was tipped to win the award after another impressive year in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, where he contributed 20 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions while captaining the German side in recent matches.

Saka had a particularly impressive season, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists, but his contributions were insufficient to help Arsenal qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The official standings are as follows:

  1. Gavi (Barcelona)
  2. Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid)
  3. Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich)
  4. Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)
  5. Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain)
  6. Ryan Gravenberch (Ajax/Bayern Munich)
  7. Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig)
  8. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
  9. Karim Adeyemi (Red Bull Salzburg/Borussia Dortmund)
  10. Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)
