‘When you see them’: Pep Guardiola makes fresh claim about Liverpool ahead of PL’s return this weekend
Pep Guardiola has lauded Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as one of the best teams he has ever played against.
Guardiola made the comments about Liverpool when speaking on The The Kelly & Wrighty Show , according to mullafabz on YouTube
“We face an incredible contender,” said Guardiola. “The opponent Liverpool, when you see them, come on, they are one of the toughest opponents I ever faced in my managerial career by far.”
Guardiola has typically led the best teams in their respective categories. But it’s still a significant remark that demonstrates how seriously he takes Liverpool’s challenge.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is well-known for lavishing sometimes undeserved praise on opponents. In this circumstance, though, his words are justified.
City would have been well on their way to a fourth title in five years if it hadn’t been for Liverpool’s constant challenge.
In 2019/20, the Reds are the only team to have stopped them. Klopp’s team had also pushed them hard the previous season.
No Liverpool fan will need reminding that their team scored 97 points and finished second.
This season, Liverpool has also broken City’s Carabao Cup hegemony.
Pep’s team had won the previous four editions of that competition prior to Jordan Henderson lifting the trophy at Wembley in February.
The two will meet in the FA Cup semi-finals, and they might still meet in the biggest match of all – the Champions League final.
There’s a reason Guardiola recently referred to Liverpool as a “pain.” Just as he feels his side is pulling away a little, he notices Jurgen in his rearview mirror.
However, Klopp’s words, which can also be seen on The Kelly & Wrighty Suggest (2:53), show that the sentiment is mutual.
“I couldn’t respect it more, what they (City) are doing,” said Klopp. “I like watching them so always when we play them the analysis is a mix of serious work and real joy, because it is fantastic football. It’s like the next level.”
