When will Man City vs Tottenham postponed match be played, will the Wolves match be go on?

The Premier League match between Manchester City and Tottenham has been postponed, but finding a replacement date may be difficult.

The Premier League took the decision following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

It means that Pep Guardiola’s side must find a new date for the encounter, and there is also a chance that next weekend’s fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers will not take place.

What Premier League said

In a statement, the league said: “At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.

“Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.”

Why there are complications with rescheduling

There are no midweek or weekend slots available for rescheduled matches between now and the World Cup in November.

Currently, each weekend is occupied by a Premier League match, while all midweeks before to the tournament in Qatar are occupied by Champions League and EFL Cup matches.

There is one hiatus towards the end of September, but this is due to an international break, thus no club matches may be played.

When could the game be replayed?

The December Premier League schedule has not yet been announced, thus it is possible that the schedule will be modified to accommodate one additional game.

However, with City due to play three matches in seven days beginning on Christmas Day, this option looks implausible.

Due to the plethora of Premier League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup matches in December and January, City’s first definite free date is the weekend of 17/18 January, while the weekend of 8/9 February is also free.

City’s availability will mostly depend on their performance in cup tournaments, as well as that of their opponents.

For example, if the Blues were to be eliminated from the EFL Cup in the next round, it would free up three midweek dates in January that might be utilized to replay the Spurs match, assuming Spurs were also eliminated from the competition.

What about the Leeds match?

The Telegraph claimed on Friday that next weekend’s game may also be postponed due to a lack of police personnel, with substantial numbers set to be redeployed to London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

City go to Wolves on Saturday, September 17, two days prior to the scheduled service.

While ensuring enough security for the Molineux game may not be problematic, it has been suggested that the league may choose to reschedule all 10 days in the spirit of fairness.

 European games

The decision regarding Champions League games will be decided by Uefa, not the Premier League or The FA, who chose to postpone this weekend’s games.

Wednesday’s scheduled match between City and Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium necessitates consideration of policing difficulties when determining whether or not the game can still be played.
