It was expected that Antonio Conte would leave Tottenham after the events that occurred last week, and his departure on Sunday came as no surprise.

When he joined the club in November 2021, many believed he would be the solution to their problems, given his track record of success.

However, despite his credentials, things didn’t go as planned. His explosive reaction after the Southampton match indicated that he no longer wanted to be associated with the club. He subsequently resigned eight days later.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, revelations about the situation at Tottenham in the lead-up to Antonio Conte’s departure have come to light. One incident, in particular, caught their attention, which occurred in January.

Reportedly, after a poor run of form that saw Tottenham win only once in five games, Conte called a meeting with all his players to have an honest conversation. However, as soon as the last player entered the room, Conte left and instructed them to discuss the issues and come up with a solution on their own.

During the so-called “crisis talks,” it has been reported that Tottenham’s players expressed their belief that Antonio Conte’s inflexible and defensive tactics were responsible for the team’s poor performance on the field.

According to the report, senior players from Tottenham then approached Conte’s office and implored him to be more adventurous in their attacking play and to loosen the reins. As a result, Tottenham managed to win five of their next six games.

Antonio Conte’s tactics and style of play could be frustrating at times, as he prioritized defense over offense to such an extent that it had a detrimental effect on Tottenham’s attacking play. This made the team unwatchable at times, and when they didn’t achieve results, it only added to the frustration of the fans.

Nonetheless, it’s important to note that the same approach has been successful for Conte at every other club he has managed. He led Chelsea to a Premier League title using a similar system, so it’s understandable that he would stick to what he knows.

Now that Conte has left, it would be beneficial for Spurs to pursue a manager who emphasizes attacking play more. Whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will take this route remains to be seen.
