What Sadio Mane did for Mohamed Salah after scoring winning penalty for Senegal vs Egypt
Sadio Mane was quick to console his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, who was overcome with emotion after losing the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Mane was the match’s eventual hero, making amends for his early penalty miss by scoring the game-winning spot-kick that crowned his country champions.
Throughout the match, there was little to separate the teams, and neither team was able to score within 120 minutes of action, forcing a penalty shootout to determine the AFCON 2021 winners.
Egypt missed two of their first four 12-yard attempts, giving Mane the chance to fire home into the bottom left corner of the goal and secure silverware for his country.
Salah was heartbroken as his country fell at the final hurdle because he did not have the opportunity to take a penalty for the Pharaohs.
But it didn’t take long for Salah’s Liverpool teammate, Sadio Mane, to come to his aid, with Mane wrapping his arm around Salah and comforting him.
Mane will be all too familiar with how the Egyptian feels right now, having lost to Algeria in the 2019 final.
And his exchange with Salah demonstrated his class as well as the mutual respect between the two teammates.
