What Inter Millan are reportedly doing in bid to control Erling Haaland
Inter Milan is analyzing videos of Antonio Rudiger, a prominent player from Real Madrid, in order to devise a strategy to neutralize Erling Haaland during the Champions League Final.
Haaland, who has scored an impressive 52 goals in as many matches this season, recently acknowledged in an interview that Manchester City had acquired him with the objective of winning the ultimate prize in European club football.
Manchester City is on the brink of achieving that goal, but Inter Milan aims to replicate the tactics employed by Rudiger, who successfully contained Haaland during the 1-1 draw between Madrid and City in the first leg of the semi-final. However, Rudiger did not participate in the return match, which City won 4-0.
“Haaland says City bought him to win the Champions League and that says everything,” said Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni. “But it’s Manchester City v Inter, not Haaland v Inter.
“I have seen a video of Rudiger in the semi-final. He managed to contain Haaland very well so maybe that’s an example we can use. We will try to copy what he did.
“Are we afraid? We should be afraid of assassins or other bad people, not footballers. Saying you’re afraid is a mistake. You have to be as brave as you can.
“We know City are a strong team who can cause problems when they get close to goal. We will analyse them this week and prepare for them.”
According to Federico Dimarco, a fellow player of Bastoni’s at Inter Milan and a lifelong fan of the club, he believes that the pressure is higher on Manchester City, who enter the final as overwhelming favorites.
Dimarco acknowledges that Pep Guardiola’s team is aiming to secure their first-ever Champions League title and complete a historic treble in the process.
Dimarco added: “It would be a dream for us to win it. For City it’s an obsession.”
