What Erik ten Hag did after he was begged not to take Jurrien Timber with him to Manchester United
After an interviewer urged him not to take Jurrien Timber to Manchester United, Erik ten Hag could only laugh and smile.
The 52-year-old will take over as temporary head coach on Monday, with Ralf Rangnick leaving to work as a consultant at Old Trafford.
Following United’s disappointing Premier League season, a team revamp is on the cards.
A slew of Ajax players are expected to follow Ten Hag to United.
Timber’s strong performances this season have made him a target for a move away, with new reports claiming he could be targeted by his previous manager.
United are looking to strengthen their defensive options this summer, with Villarreal center-back Pau Torres already linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Ten Hag was recently asked about Timber’s characteristics, and he was effusive in his praise.
“At the bottom, there’s a photo of Jurrien Timber, he’s another great leader that was trained at Ajax,” he said. “Besides his football skills, he has the personality to become a captain.” The interviewer then begged: “Please don’t take him with you,” to which Ten Hag laughed.
