What Christopher Nkunku has said on Chelsea move as deal ‘confirmed’ ahead of 2023 transfer

What Christopher Nkunku has said on Chelsea move as deal ‘confirmed’ ahead of 2023 transfer

RB Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku will join Chelsea in 2023, according to reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Frenchman is rumored to have signed a contract with the Blues, completing a deal that makes him a “new Chelsea player.”

Despite rumors to the contrary, Nkunku will not be arriving in January, despite the season-ending injury to teenage striker Armando Broja earlier this month.

Instead, the striker will arrive as planned in the summer, but the club has yet to issue an official statement regarding the signing.

However, it appears to be just a matter of time before the 25-year-old can reproduce his performance in the Bundesliga.

This season alone, the forward has contributed to 14 league goals in 15 appearances and scored three goals in six Champions League group stage matches.

Nkunku hoped to carry that success into the World Cup with France, but a knee ligament injury ended his participation before it even began. The focus subsequently shifted to rehabilitation, although it appears that a decision has also been taken regarding the final terms of the transfer to Chelsea.

The trade has been rumored by Nkunku, who rarely speaks about the Blues, but he did express transfer interest earlier this year.

Speaking with Telefoot, via GFFN, he said: “It’s no secret. There are clubs interested in me. Yes it’s flattering, but it’s also flattering to have a club like Leipzig do everything to keep me as well.”

Paris Saint-Germain also had a chance to sign him, but he responded similarly when questioned about a return to the club “I’ll have to reflect well and make a decision. The World Cup is on the way and that’s another factor to take into account. [On what he would do if PSG came knocking] Like I’ve said, I’ll simply have to reflect on it..”

While the first statements from the striker following the confirmation of his transfer to Stamford Bridge have not yet been released, it appears that they are imminent.
