Werner netted the only goal of the match in West Ham London derby, with a couple of minutes before halftime after he tapped home Ben Chilwell’s inviting cross to give the Tuchel team a crucial advantage that they managed to hold till the final whistle.

However, In the second half of the game, Werner missed a sitter when he pounced on Lukasz Fabianski parrying Mason Mount’s shot from a six-yard only to kick the ball off the target.

This big miss elicited an incredible reaction from his manager, Thomas Tuchel. And the German joked that it would be too much for him to score two goals in a single game after a long wait with his goal being the first goal since February.

“I think it’s my second chance. I should have scored,” he told Sky Sports after the match. “But I think I need to come back slowly with one goal. If I score twice today, it might be too much at first. No, I’m kidding.

“I was confident there. When I have the ball in my foot, I feel confident in my foot. Yes, for now – this season I have luck as well as confidence.

“I may have hit the ball with my foot last year, but I always get in. It’s different this year, but I’m happy to score first.

“This second opportunity will also occur in the coming weeks and months.”
