“We already showed what we are capable of.” Marcos Alonso sends warning to Real Madrid player Toni Kroos after backing his team to beat Chelsea in UCL
Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso made an unusual statement in an interview with Diario AS (h/t Football.London) before of their UEFA Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.
He also issued a warning to Los Blancos player Toni Kroos, who had backed his team to beat the West Londoners this time.
With the long-term absence of Ben Chilwell, who was progressively cementing his place in this Chelsea team, the Spaniard has played a significant part for us this season.
Alonso has filled in admirably for the Blues this season, appearing in 34 games and contributing two goals and four assists.
The Stamford Bridge team enjoyed an impressive start to life under Thomas Tuchel, who led the club to the UEFA Champions League and, later, the UEFA Super Cup.
In February of this year, the London-based club won their first FIFA Club World Cup.
Chelsea’s star Marcos Alonso discusses their forthcoming Champions League match against Real Madrid.
Chelsea has had some recent success, but rising injury concerns, along with the dread and chaos caused by the club’s present sanctions, have added an extra layer of hardship to an already challenging business end of the season.
Chelsea winger Alonso has reiterated what the Blues are capable of doing in an interview with Diario AS (h/t Football.London).
He also stated that the match against the Spanish team would be challenging and that there are no clear-cut winners as of yet.
“We already showed last year what we are capable of. It’s a different year, another moment, but we’re facing two great teams and we’ll try to give everything to reach the semi-finals. I think there are no favourites. At this point, any team is complicated and it will be a beautiful and difficult tie for sure. Let’s leave it there, at 50% chance for each.”
While the Spanish giants have looked unsteady in recent memory, if there is one thing we have learned from history, it is that you never write them off.
They may have recently suffered a humbling 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Classico, but the CL remains one of their favorite tournaments, having won the prized European trophy 13 times in their historic career.
The Blues did manage to get past them the last time, and they will be trying to repeat that achievement.
The UCL final stages are typically difficult affairs, and the Santiago Bernabeu outfit can haunt you even if you give them a small chance, as evidenced by their second leg triumph against PSG.
Chelsea would have to err on the side of caution and put up their finest performance against a team accustomed to competing at the highest level.
Thomas Tuchel will be concerned about his squad’s rotation since they are now competing on multiple fronts.
Off-field squabbles can also make it difficult to concentrate on football at the present, but the German manager has showed remarkable tenacity and resolve in the face of all the uncertainties that have befallen the club.
Alonso has also confessed that the Madrid club is quite dangerous, and many of The Blues fans would share his concerns.
In recent games, Chelsea has demonstrated a strong drive to string together a string of victories.
Having said that, the majority of Chelsea’s opponents in these games were not of the caliber of this Real Madrid club. Every Blues player will have to be at their best if they are to beat Los Blancos and proceed to the next round of the competition.
