Manchester United fans fought on the terraces after the Red Devils were defeated by Brighton and Hove Albion in their first Premier League game of the season.

Manchester United suffered their first home defeat to Brighton, who won 2 -1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Brighton took a commanding lead in the first half thanks to two goals from Pascal Gross, and while Alexis Mac Allister’s own goal reduced the deficit after the break, Ten Hag’s side could not complete the comeback.

As a result, tensions in the stands rose, and a fight appeared to break out in one section of the Old Trafford crowd. View the video below:

A man appears to have his hand around the throat of another spectator in one photograph.

Following that, fans from the section below became involved as others attempted to defuse the situation, while many simply looked on in horror.

Ten Hag urged supporters to be the 12th man against Brighton before the game.

The Dutchman said:

“If we bring commitment then I think they [the fans] will like it and they will bring the fight back. The stadium I think is meant to bring fight and cooperation.”

Some of those in attendance at Old Trafford appear to have taken that call to action a little too seriously.
