Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo are involved in a weird altercation at Portugal training
Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo were involved in an awkward altercation during a training session for Portugal as they began preparations for the 2022 World Cup.
At their most recent training session, the Manchester United star appeared to be acting as a peacemaker when Manchester City fullback Cancelo appeared frustrated and ready to explode.
The 37-year-old approached Cancelo in an attempt to diffuse the situation by placing his hand firmly behind the defender’s head.
João Cancelo was pissed cos he got tackled hard in training, Ronaldo just went to console João and he wasn’t having it.
Sad that every media outlet I’ve used this cut out clip to push their sorry agenda.
Cry today. Cry tomorrow. Cry forever. Ronaldo’s the 🐐 https://t.co/QSbU6NAErx pic.twitter.com/GTTijIuKvx— Dez (@dezfootie) November 15, 2022
It did not appear to work as well as Ronaldo would have hoped, as the 28-year-old repeatedly thrust his head forward in anger before embracing him.
The pair then parted ways to return to training, Ronaldo smiling as he walked away from the awkward confrontation.

Ronaldo’s bizarre encounter with Cancelo follows his awkward exchange with Bruno Fernandes in the Portugal locker room.
Shortly after Ronaldo’s explosive interview, in which he blasted the club’s current state, the United duo met up with the national team and had a chilly exchange.
Despite Fernandes’ cold reception of his teammate, Joao Mario, a midfielder for Benfica and Portugal, insisted there is no rift between the two players.
Mario stated on Tuesday at Portugal’s press conference, “I was in the locker room at that moment, I saw pictures.
“It was a joke between them because Bruno was one of the last to arrive and Cristiano asked if he had come by boat. It was a joke between them, they play together”.
Mario asserts that Fernandes’ late arrival, not Ronaldo’s tell-all interview, prompted Ronaldo’s confused expression.
Ronaldo revealed in an interview that he did not’respect’ current United manager Erik ten Hag, while also criticizing the club’s facilities and their position in the football pecking order.
He believed he had been “betrayed” by the club, claiming that they had fallen behind teams like Liverpool and Manchester City.
Ronaldo also criticized United’s owners and urged supporters to continue their protest against the Glazers.
