What Man City star Haaland did with match ball at FullTime vs Burnley
The Norwegian powerhouse, who matched a record by scoring five goals in the Champions League against RB Leipzig on Wednesday, secured his sixth hat-trick of the season against Burnley, led by Vincent Kompany.
Haaland was the highlight of Saturday’s lone FA Cup quarter-final match, which Manchester City won 6-0.
With his most recent hat-trick, he has now scored 42 goals this season, and it’s only mid-March. In the 59th minute, he completed his hat-trick with a goal, after scoring twice in just three minutes in the first half.
Pep Guardiola gave Haaland a deserving break, and he observed from the bench as his Manchester City colleagues scored two additional goals against Burnley.
Julian Alvarez increased the score to 4-0 just before Haaland was replaced by Cole Palmer, who scored City’s fifth goal in the 68th minute.
Alvarez completed the Etihad Stadium’s victory by scoring the sixth and final goal just five minutes later, which was a fantastic way to respond to his recent contract extension.
When the match ended, Haaland walked onto the field to receive yet another match ball. After collecting it, he seemed to want to give it to his teammate Jack Grealish. Perhaps Haaland is starting to run out of space at home to keep all the match balls he has accumulated.

Erling Haaland has got that many match balls from hat-tricks this season that he’s now trying to give them away! 😭😂 @JackGrealish @ErlingHaaland pic.twitter.com/f8eO0V5uAS

Grealish seemed to enjoy Haaland’s gesture, and it’s possible that he’ll get a match ball of his own one day.
As Haaland scored a total of 42 goals before the international break, it’s natural to ask what the record for most goals scored by a Premier League player across all competitions in a single season is.
According to the experts at Squawka, the record is held jointly by Ruud van Nistelrooy (in the 2002/03 season) and Mohamed Salah (in the 2017/18 season), both of whom scored 44 goals for Manchester United and Liverpool, respectively.
Considering that Manchester City is still competing in three different competitions, it’s highly likely that Haaland will surpass the current record.
If he continues to perform at his current level, stays injury-free, and Manchester City makes it to the Champions League final this season, there’s a good chance that he could score 60 goals or more.
This would be a significant milestone in Premier League history, as it would put Haaland’s goal-scoring numbers on par with the prime years of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
