Video: Goalkeeper scores with 101-meter shot from his own box in what could be a world record
Goalie Leandro Requena has become a sensation in the global football community following his remarkable goal scored from his own penalty area.
Requena, who is 35 years old and currently plays for Cobresal in Chile, embarrassed his opponent, Bryan Cortes of Colo Colo, during a game on Sunday.
With his team leading 2-0 in the 77th minute, Requena kicked the ball from his penalty area towards one of his forwards, and it ended up going all the way into the opposing team’s net.
To his surprise, Cortes found himself in a state of confusion as he tried to prevent the ball from going into the goal. Despite the goalkeeper’s frantic efforts to catch up with the ball, it ended up rolling past him and into the net, causing chaos and excitement at Estadio El Cobre.

Despite the fact that the visiting team managed to score a goal towards the end of the game, Cobresal emerged as the deserving winners with a final score of 3-1. The hero of the game, Requena, expressed his astonishment at having scored the goal later on.
“I can’t lie. I wasn’t trying to score,” an honest Requena declared at the final whistle.
“Unfortunately for Cortes, the bounce killed him… but luckily it went in for us.”
Requena has received even more good news as his goal has the potential to be recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records.
If verified, his long-distance goal would surpass the current record held by Tom King, who scored a 105-yard goal (96.01 meters) during a match between Newport County and Cheltenham Town in England’s League Two competition in 2021.
It is believed that Requena’s impressive goal was scored from a distance of 110.4 yards (101 meters).
Requena’s achievement has reminded many football fans of José Chilavert, the legendary goalkeeper from Paraguay who scored 67 goals throughout his illustrious career.
