‘Very, very powerful’: Bernd Leno admits one Arsenal player’s shots are completely ‘impossible’ to stop

In a video posted on the club’s official website, Arsenal star Bernd Leno ranked his colleague Granit Xhaka’s finest goals.

At the Emirates, the Swiss international frequently divides opinion, but if there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s that his long-distance shooting is truly incredible.

Xhaka has 13 goals for Arsenal so far, practically all of them have been spectacular.

He’s one player that poses a serious threat from distance, and Leno, who trains with him every day, knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of those shots.

The German, who is well-acquainted with Xhaka, described the midfielder’s shots as “extremely, very strong.”

When asked if he would have stopped Xhaka’s debut goal for Arsenal against Hull City, Leno replied, “Of course,” before bursting into laughter.

“No, I think you see it’s very difficult for the goalkeeper. The ball is moving, it goes towards the goalkeeper and then moves to the right. We all know Granit’s shot is very, very powerful.”

Leno remarked of the Swiss international’s magnificent free kick against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in 2018:

“The other ones I’d save, but this one is a perfect goal. Top corner, powerful.

“As a goalkeeper, you don’t expect that. His shots are very unpredictable and impossible to catch.”

If you’re a goalkeeper and you catch one of Xhaka’s ferocious strikes, you should be recognized.

The Arsenal man’s shooting isn’t always accurate, but when he gets it right, it usually lands up in the back of the net.

Xhaka has yet to score a goal this season, but he’s certain to do so in the coming weeks.

Mikel Arteta has given him permission to play a little further forward than before, which should give him a few more chances at goal.
