“Unthinkable” -Journalist reacts as Tottenham considers a seventh summer transfer for £50 million star

According to Dean Jones, Tottenham target James Maddison may consider a move to a European club.

Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in making the creative midfielder his seventh summer signing, and Jones believes an official approach from the north Londoners to Leicester would be “interesting.”

Spurs are  reportedly ‘very seriously considering’ a move for the 25-year-old, who was in outstanding form for Leicester City last season.

Maddison is in the final two years of his contract, and the Midlands club knows this is one of their last chances to get a good price for the ex-Norwich City man.

Leicester were considering selling the midfielder in April in order to revamp their squad for the summer, with the  Daily Mail reporting that Maddison would cost around £50 million.

Jones is unsure whether they would be willing to sell two of their most important players in the same window if Youri Tielemans’ future is in serious doubt.

What Jones said about Maddison?

Asked whether Spurs could make a move for the one-cap England international, he said: “They have absolutely no intention of selling Maddison in this window but let’s see if an offer lands and who it’s from.

“Maddison has big ambitions, so it would be very interesting if a Champions League club or even Europa League club make a bid. The prospect of losing Tielemans and Maddison in the same window is pretty unthinkable.”

Maddison, like Yves Bissouma and Richarlison, ticks many boxes for Conte and would be a statement signing for Spurs.

Apart from Danny Ward, who appeared once, the midfielder was by far Leicester’s best player last season, according to WhoScored.

His rating (7.07) was boosted by 12 Premier League goals, eight assists, and six man of the match awards, which were only surpassed by Mason Mount, Harry Kane, and Mohamed Salah (7).

Overall, Maddison was involved in 30 goals across all competitions, demonstrating himself as a classy operator at the highest level, including four goals in Europe.

With Tottenham still looking for an attacking player, bringing Maddison to London would cap off a sensational summer for Conte and Fabio Paratici.
