Unexpected turn of events: Liverpool receives a key boost ahead of Brighton clash
Today’s FA Cup fourth-round match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool will take place without Moises Caicedo.
The midfielder has been ruled out of action as he attempts to leave the club before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, January 31.
This season, Caicedo has been the driving force behind Brighton’s push for European football. He has made a total of 25 appearances and scored twice for the sixth-placed Seagulls.
However, the Ecuadorian international revealed on social media that he wants to leave the Amex Stadium after Arsenal’s £60 million bid was turned down.
The Athletic reports that Caicedo did not train with the rest of his Brighton teammates yesterday.
And Roberto De Zerbi has instructed the 21-year-old to remain away until 1 February, as the Seagulls wish to retain his services for the second half of the season.
This means he will not play against Liverpool, which is a huge boost for the Reds.
The macth follows Klopp’s promise to fans that Liverpool will “go for it with everything they’ve got” in the remaining months of the season.
“I didn’t become a bad manager overnight. I was never as good as people probably said or not as bad as some people might think” said Klopp.
“But imagine if you were here today talking to another coach of Liverpool because last season we’d won all four trophies and I said ‘see you later, holiday!’ “Imagine if you see a different face and he has to explain these things and he tells you how it is. Nobody would listen!
“They’d say last season was great and this year is not great – so go! “You have to have wide shoulders and really just take it. It’s tough, I’m sorry. But we will go for it with all we have to get out of it and then play in a way that the people can’t wait to go to the stadium again.
“Hopefully we can get through this together and get much closer again. From there we all know anything can happen.”
