‘Underappreciated’: International boss claims 26-year-old Chelsea star never gets the credit he deserves
Germany manager Hansi Flick has described Chelsea attacker Timo Werner as “underappreciated” for his efforts on the field.
Werner, 26, is a player that divides fans.
The Blues forward had another eventful season at Stamford Bridge, scoring 11 goals in 37 outings across all competitions.
He is still frequently in the spotlight for squandered chances in front of goal.
In contrast, the sprinter is an important international performer for his country, Germany.
Flick, the German manager, has singled out Chelsea’s individual for his entire playing.
He provided an assist in his country’s 1-1 tie with Italy over the weekend, and his team now faces England in their next Nations League fixture today.
“With Timo, it’s a bit underappreciated what he brings to the team,” Flick said.
“There’s a willingness to go out of his way, to put the opponent under pressure, to create spaces in front of the defence. He implements well.”
Werner’s Chelsea career is now two seasons old, yet the same issues with his game continue to plague him.
Without a doubt, his work rate and commitment are unquestionable.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues, on the other hand, require more attacking output from several of their strikers, notably Werner.
He’s apparently one of several players willing to leave west London if a suitable offer was made for him this summer, so it’ll be intriguing to see where his near future lies.
