Ukraine manager comments on Mykhailo Mudryk after early Chelsea struggles
Ruslan Rotan, the interim manager of Ukraine, has expressed his belief that Mykhailo Mudryk will have an important part to play for Chelsea in the upcoming season, despite his slow beginning in the Premier League.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who was transferred to Stamford Bridge for £89m in January, has yet to score a goal for Chelsea, disappointing fans who were hoping for an immediate impact from the joint-third most expensive signing in Premier League history.
However, the 22-year-old is still adjusting to his new surroundings in west London. Ukraine interim manager Rotan has faith that Mudryk will soon start performing well for Chelsea and has praised his skills as a “great talent”.
“Mykhailo is a great talent and fulfilling his potential is right ahead of him,” Rotan said ahead of Ukraine’s Euro 2024 qualifier against England on Sunday.
“In a couple of months’ time he will play a key role in the Premier League. He’s one of the diamonds in our team and we cherish him.
“He’s very motivated to play at Wembley. He’s one of the key players. It’s very positive and we look forward to his future with great optimism.”
Despite narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Qatar World Cup, Ukraine is hoping to bring some “much-needed positivity” to the country during their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
This is especially important considering the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Vladimir Putin’s Russia since February 2022, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands and has affected millions of children.
