UCL latest power rankings: Liverpool jump past Bayern Munich as Premier League dominates
There are three matchdays left in the Champions League group stage, and many teams are playing for their lives.
With the group stage halfway through, there are only three matchdays left as teams compete to finish one or two in each group in order to advance to the knockout phase.
The group stage resumes on Tuesday with a few notable matches. Bayern Munich hosts Benfica in Group E, while the Group F match between Manchester United and Atalanta in Bergamo stands out the most.
On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Group Germain’s A matchup against RB Leipzig on the road and Liverpool vs. Atletico Madrid in Group B provide plenty of action and drama for fans.
Since the last power rankings, there has been a minor shift at the top, with Liverpool moving into first place and Bayern dropping to second.
Juventus moved up to third place, while Borussia Dortmund, which was third the previous time around, dropped out of the top ten. Meanwhile, PSG has moved up to fifth place, up from sixth in the previous rankings.
All four English clubs are in the latest top 10, which is unsurprising given their dominance of the competition in recent years. Last year’s final, won by Chelsea, pitted the club against Premier League rival Manchester City. The most recent power rankings can be found below.
10.Real Madrid (2-0-1)
Real continue to be arguably Spain’s strongest team. Every season, they are among the favorites, even when they lose in shocking fashion to underdogs like Sheriff.
9.Manchester United (2-0-1)
Cristiano Ronaldo has made Manchester United a much stronger team, and his goals give them reason to believe they can go far in this competition.
8.Manchester City (2-0-1)
Rivals Man City has the roster to win this thing, but they’ve shown in recent years that they often fall short in the knockout stage.
7.Chelsea (2-0-1)
The defending champions, based in London, still have a very strong attack, but an injury to striker Romelu Lukaku could be concerning.
6.Red Bull Salzburg (2-1-0)
The defending Austrian champions make their first appearance in the top 10, owing largely to their first-place finish in Group, but a lack of depth and injuries could hinder them as the first round progresses.
5.PSG (2-1-0)
Messi has improved an already good team, but big names alone will not win them the Champions League.
4,Ajax (3-0)
The Dutch masters, one of four teams with a perfect record to make the power rankings, have demonstrated that they are serious about competing for the UCL this season.
3.Juventus (3-0)
The post-Ronaldo era has been rocky at home, but the Italians haven’t missed a beat in the UCL so far this season.
2.Bayern Munich (3-0)
The Bavarian giants remain in top form and look to be the odds-on favorites at this early point of the season.
The Reds are riding on Mo Salah’s best form of his career, and that form could propel this team to great heights.
