Tottenham’s Antonio Conte stand-in shares Graham Potter remark that may worry Chelsea
Cristian Stellini, who is temporarily replacing Antonio Conte as Tottenham’s manager, may have a well-prepared strategy to defeat Chelsea in the upcoming Premier League match on Sunday.
Stellini revealed that he has been analyzing the tactics of Chelsea’s manager, Graham Potter, since Potter’s arrival in England in 2021.
Stellini is expected to lead the Spurs team again in the weekend game, as Conte is currently in Italy recovering from his gallbladder surgery.
“I studied Potter since I arrived here,” Stellini told reporters on Friday. “I followed Brighton a lot because it surprised me the way they played and the way they changed system many times. We played many games against them and every game was different. For sure he is a great manager.”
Since taking temporary charge of Tottenham, Stellini has led the team to home victories over Manchester City and West Ham. Unlike Conte, Stellini is a more composed figure on the touchline, which could be beneficial in a potentially turbulent match against Chelsea, a team that has caused chaos in previous encounters.
Stellini also shared that his children are more likely to trigger his frustration than anything he observes during a game.
“Sometimes I get angry – because of my children more than anything,” Stellini added. “They do what children do normally. They grow, they create problems – and the older they are, the bigger the problems are.
“Anger sometimes comes from love. Also a manager, if he loves his team and he loves his job, sometimes he is angry. Maybe you don’t have to show this anger because you have it inside, and you transfer it to your team after.”
At the beginning of the current Premier League season, Tottenham had their most successful start ever, accumulating 23 points from their first 10 matches. However, their form has declined in the past few months, and they currently sit 12 points behind the league leaders, Arsenal, in the standings.
Tottenham’s recent victory against West Ham propelled them back into the top four of the Premier League, pushing Newcastle down the table. Newcastle suffered a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool, following a run of five draws in their previous six matches. As a result, Tottenham will aim to increase their lead over Newcastle this weekend as the Magpies have no Premier League game due to their Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.
Antonio Conte will not be back in the Spurs dugout until he has fully recovered from his recent surgery, and during his absence, Stellini will strive to earn as many points as possible for the team.
