Tottenham warned against giving Conte money to spend in January as impending exit predicted

Tottenham warned against giving Conte money to spend in January as impending exit predicted

Tottenham Hotspur has been cautioned against providing Antonio Conte spending money in January if he does not extend his contract soon.

Conte succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur just over a year ago.

Overall, Tottenham have flourished under the former Chelsea manager. He led them to a top-four finish last season, and they have now advanced to the round of 16 in the Champions League.

However, they still have a ways to go before they can consistently win trophies.

The Londoners were defeated by Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United when they faced the Premier League’s best teams.

Conte has been backed despite the fact that the club has spent heavily in each of the most recent transfer windows.

However, he has yet to commit to the club, and his current deal will end next summer.

Tim Sherwood believes that Antonio Conte will quit Tottenham if they fail to win a trophy this season. Tottenham are presently fourth in the Premier League.

“I think it’s a huge opportunity for Antonio Conte but only if they’re going to spend an awful lot of money,” Sherwood told talkSPORT.

“It’s very difficult to win the Premier League we know because Manchester City are so good and they bought [Erling] Haaland which takes them even further away.

“There’s a lot of clubs struggling. We talk about top four, I think that top four would be a huge success for Tottenham. Because Liverpool are out of it, Manchester United are out of it, Chelsea are out of it.

“I think that it’s a really difficult season for them. Conte keeps talking about the project and how he needs patience but he hasn’t signed a new contract.

“I’d suggest signing the contract and then talking about patience and calming everyone down. I think that if he doesn’t win a trophy this year then he’ll leave, I really do.”

Sherwood has also indicated that Daniel Levy should confirm Conte’s retention before providing him with additional spending funds.

“If I’m chairman Daniel Levy I’m not giving him any money until he commits to the club,” Sherwood added.

“Why would I buy players to fit the Antonio Conte style if I’m going to bring in another manager with different ideas?

“I think that this group of players are very good, he just needs to trust them a lot more. You can’t just wait until you’re 2-0 down to start playing.

“He keeps talking about how good Liverpool are but Liverpool beat no one away from home this season [until Sunday], so they’re not fantastic and I thought he missed a trick.”
