Tottenham transfer news: Spurs in shock Mason Mount transfer pursuit
It appears that Chelsea’s playmaker, Mason Mount, may be leaving the team this summer, and there is unexpected interest from Tottenham Hotspur in acquiring him.
According to The Athletic, there is significant interest in Mount as his contract with Chelsea approaches its end. He has less than two years remaining on his current contract and discussions regarding a new deal have been postponed.
This has piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City. Additionally, it has been revealed that Tottenham has been keeping a watchful eye on Mount’s situation since last summer.
Chelsea is keen to avoid losing Mount for free in 2024 and is making him available for purchase this summer. However, Tottenham is facing difficulty in acquiring him as Chelsea is demanding a fee of approximately £70 million despite his contract coming to an end soon.Â
Mason Mount Tottenham transfer possibility
It is unlikely that Tottenham will be willing to pay such a large amount for Mount or any player who has just one year remaining on their contract.
It appears that Liverpool is the most probable place for a certain event to occur, however, it is worth monitoring Tottenham as they may also be a potential destination.
The primary requirement for Tottenham currently is a new manager, but in terms of acquiring new players, securing a creative midfielder should be of utmost importance.
In midfield, Tottenham is lacking a player with genuine creativity who can connect the midfield and attack effectively, unless Harry Kane is operating in a deeper role.
During certain matches this season, Spurs have felt the absence of such a player, and they are missing someone akin to Christian Eriksen in their squad.
England manager Gareth Southgate praised Mount as ‘exceptional’ for his impressive creative skills on the ball and work rate off the ball, which could potentially transform Tottenham’s game.
However, Tottenham is unable to make a serious pursuit for Mount at the moment as they are currently without a manager and their director of football cannot participate in targeting new signings.
As a result, Tottenham is likely falling behind in the race to sign Mount, and taking into consideration his ties with Chelsea, his expected salary, and transfer fee, it seems unlikely that Mount will be seen wearing a Spurs jersey in the upcoming season.
