Tottenham to lose at Stamford Bridge and finish below Chelsea this season: Florent Malouda

Former Chelsea forward Florent Malouda is concerned about Tottenham’s progress under Antonio Conte, but believes his former club will win the derby.

Thomas Tuchel’s men will host Antonio Conte’s dangerous Tottenham Hotspurs in a game that will provide an excellent opportunity to see where the respective London neighbors stand.

Conte is expected to finish ahead of his former club following a stunning transfer window that saw Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet, and Fraser Forster join the club.

While Chelsea did sign Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Gabriel Slonina, top targets Raphinha and Jules Kounde slipped through their fingers.

While Malouda understands why Tottenham may be considered favorites, he believes Chelsea will extend their five-match winning streak against Tottenham to six.

“Chelsea will always be Chelsea, and they’ll be competing for trophies because they always do,” Malouda said while talking for Ladbrookes. “I think overall, they will finish above Tottenham. It’s definitely something I wish happens, but also when I take my Chelsea hat off, knowing the ambition of this Chelsea team; they want to succeed – they want to prove something, and I believe they can have a good season.

“I will go with Chelsea to beat Tottenham 3-1 this weekend. I think there’ll be a lot of goals in this game, and I’d expect Tottenham to score, but I’m backing my old side to win 3-1.” Tuchel has won all five meetings he has had against Tottenham.

Spurs, on the other hand, demonstrated all of their credentials by coming from behind to thrash Southampton 4-1 in their first Premier League match of the season.

And Malouda believes that Tuchel and the Chelsea board still have a lot of work to do if they want to keep the north Londoners at bay.

“The odds say Tottenham are more likely to finish higher in the league than Chelsea, and that’s a big concern – but I understand why,” Malouda added. “The stability, and the fact that Antonio Conte has improved his squad from last season based on what he understood, identifying areas he knows he needs to improve.

“Tottenham seem in a very strong place right now, largely down to the manager and the job he’s done in terms of recruitment. Chelsea have brought in some big players, Raheem Sterling being a great signing in particular, but there are still a lot of players who want to leave the club, and this still hasn’t been sorted out.

“The club haven’t been able to move players on yet, and the season is already underway now. Even the manager was worried in pre-season about things.”
