Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo informs Roma he wants to leave and misses Sunday’s victory over Spezia as Mourinho issues stance

Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo has told Roma he wishes to leave the club.

Tottenham have offered a loan with option to buy at £30million but Roma want an obligation clause amid interest from AC Milan.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho said: “Nicolo’s wish is to leave but in the end I think he’ll stay. Why? Usually when a player wants to leave, it’s because there’s an important offer on the table.

“But so far there’s nothing for Zaniolo. That’s why I think he’ll be here a week from now.”

Both Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have missed significant time due to injury this season, limiting Conte’s attacking options.

Spurs desired to sign Leandro Trossard, but their indecision cost them the winger, who signed with Arsenal for £27 million.

Zaniolo, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder, has scored 24 goals and recorded 18 assists in 128 appearances for the Serie A powerhouses.

Zaniolo did not play in Roma’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Spezia on Sunday, with club director Tiago Pinto stating that the player ‘put his individual interests ahead of those of the collective’ by opting to sit out.

Mourinho added: “The director spoke before the match, and he did it well. The important thing today is to have won with a good team performance.”
