Tottenham prepare to outbid Liverpool to sign Moroccan World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat
Tottenham is anticipated to “intensify their efforts” to outbid Liverpool and Atletico Madrid for the signing of Moroccan World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat for over £50 million in January.
The 26-year-old played every minute of the Atlas Lions’ six World Cup matches, enabling his country to become the first African team to reach the World Cup semifinals.
La Repubblica reports that the London club could be willing to spend in excess of £50 million for the defensive midfielder, as Antonio Conte, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has been impressed by the player’s performances.
Fiorentina, his home club, is unwilling to sell the midfielder, whom they purchased in 2020 for £17 million, so it’s evident they’ll have to dig deep into their coffers to acquire him.
Even yet, Spurs would need to overcome Atletico Madrid and Liverpool to sign Amrabat, since Jurgen Klopp spoke with the Moroccan’s representatives last week.
In January, Spurs were rumored to be interested in signing the midfielder when it appeared he was struggling to adapt to life in Serie A.
Amrabat has appeared in all but three of Fiorentina’s competitive matches this season. He has accumulated an incredible 78 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
In the previous four weeks, he has received the praise of numerous football experts and powerful personalities, including France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, who called him ‘the best midfielder in Qatar.’
Unfortunately, Amrabat was unable to help his team extend their fairytale campaign, as Atlas Lions lost 2-0 to France in the semi-finals on Wednesday night, bringing an end to their amazing competition.
Tottenham are also allegedly in the running to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who impressed for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
On Boxing Day, Antonio Conte’s squad will travel to face London rivals Brentford in an effort to strengthen their position within the top four.
