Tottenham plotting to sign £40m Arsenal target to convince Antonio Conte to stay

Tottenham plotting to sign £40m Arsenal target to convince Antonio Conte to stay

In an effort to convince Antonio Conte to remain with Spurs, Tottenham could reportedly pursue Ajax superstar and rumored Arsenal target Mohammed Kudus.

Tottenham think that signing Kudus will be enough to convince Conte to sign a new long-term contract with the club.

According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham are willing to move for the Ghanaian international at the request of Conte.

Kudus, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder for Ghana, was one of the tournament’s breakout stars, scoring two goals despite Ghana’s inability to advance out of their group.

And recent sources seem to indicate that a January transfer is possible.

The Sun reports that Ajax are willing to trade Kudus in January if an offer of £40 million is made for the Eredivisie sensation.

And this latest information on Tottenham may indicate that Conte’s team will soon make a bid in this range.

Tottenham are not the only club interested in Kudus, as 90min reports that Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are also after the teenager. Nonetheless, Spurs could feel confident in their pursuit of the Ghanaian international.

In fact, Daniel Levy will likely be compelled to make the move by the possibility that signing Kudus will be the factor that keeps Antonio Conte at the club. Given Tottenham’s true needs throughout the transfer window, the transaction may not make much sense.

Most Tottenham supporters would agree that a creative center midfielder should be a top priority in the January transfer window, and while Kudus could function in this position, the 22-year-old is much more suited to playing in the forward position.

And as a result, the addition of Kudus could unbalance the team more than anything else, with the forward joining a side that is stocked with attacking alternatives, including Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Richarlison, with Antonio Conte’s priorities seemingly misplaced.
