Tottenham plot summer move for 29-year-old Real Madrid defender
According to a report from Fichajes, Antonio Rudiger made a Bosman move to Real Madrid at the start of the season, but he hasn’t performed at his best, and as a result, Real Madrid may consider selling the 29-year-old. Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly interested in signing him.
Tottenham is in need of additional defensive quality, and Rudiger may be an ideal partner for Cristian Romero. The German player’s best performances were in the Premier League with Chelsea, so the prospect of returning to England may be appealing to him.
It appears that Rudiger does not believe he is a key member of the Real Madrid first-team squad. It remains to be seen if Tottenham can provide him with an opportunity to leave the Spanish club.
Tottenham’s defense requires more depth, and Rudiger would be an upgrade to their existing options. The Real Madrid defender is capable of playing in both a back four and a back three, and he would add some much-needed tactical flexibility to the team.
In addition to his defensive abilities, Rudiger’s aggressive mindset and strong mentality could also be beneficial for the Tottenham dressing room. As a player in his prime, he could easily adapt and have an immediate impact at Tottenham next season.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid will be willing to sell Rudiger during the upcoming summer transfer window, as they may not want to weaken their squad’s depth. As Rudiger joined the club on a free transfer and has a contract until 2026, Real Madrid is not under any immediate pressure to sell him.
For Tottenham to attract players like Rudiger, they need to secure a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League. They should also work on securing new contracts for the likes of Antonio Conte and Harry Kane. If a world-class manager like Conte leaves in the summer, it is unlikely that top players like Rudiger would want to join Tottenham.
The situation with Rudiger is developing, and Tottenham has reportedly shown interest in other centre-backs such as Fikayo Tomori.
