Tottenham on high alert as Bayern fire Julian Naglesmann and appoint Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel, the former manager of Chelsea, has agreed to become the new manager of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich following the shocking dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann.
It appears that his time as head coach has come to an end following a 2-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, which has allowed Borussia Dortmund to take over the top position in the Bundesliga title race for the rest of the season.
Bayern had a 10-point lead over Dortmund earlier this year, but that advantage has vanished. According to Bild, Nagelsmann has lost his job as a result.
The club’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said after the recent loss: “That’s not what Bayern means. So little drive, mentality, duel, assertiveness – I’ve rarely experienced that.”
Tottenham is likely to be disappointed with the news of Tuchel’s appointment as they were also expected to start searching for a new head coach soon.
Antonio Conte is rumored to be fired during the international break, and Ryan Mason could be the interim coach. Tuchel is among the potential permanent replacements for Conte that Spurs are considering.
Nevertheless, Tottenham could also be interested in Nagelsmann as he was previously shortlisted to replace Jose Mourinho in 2021 before he joined Bayern Munich. Despite his impending dismissal, Nagelsmann’s reputation remains intact.
Tuchel, 49, has been unemployed since September of last year, when Chelsea fired him after a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the opening Champions League match.
The German coach reportedly fell out with the west London club’s new owners after winning the competition a year earlier. He also reached the final in back-to-back years with PSG in 2020.
