Tottenham make a cheeky enquiry about unsettled Man City superstar after setting limit for Crystal Palace man

According to a report, Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has fallen short by £20 million, prompting them to inquire about a Manchester City player instead.

Tottenham will require defensive reinforcements in the summer regardless of who their manager is. They seek a more dependable partner for Cristian Romero at center-back.

Tottenham will maintain an open mind, but Guehi is one of their primary targets. In February, the Evening Standard reported that the former Chelsea player is on their radar.

Now, these connections have been strengthened by Football Transfers. According to the website, Tottenham would be willing to pay £45 million for Guehi.

However, his current club, Crystal Palace, who have him under contract until 2026, are demanding a fee closer to £65 million, which Spurs are unwilling to pay.

Possibly in light of this, Tottenham is expanding their search for capable center-backs. And according to Football Transfers, they have recently inquired about Aymeric Laporte of Manchester City.

This season, Laporte has lost favor at the Etihad Stadium. Therefore, TEAMtalk was recently informed that he wishes to leave the club in the summer.

Laporte has made more than 170 appearances for City since joining the club from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018. He has won nine trophies while playing for Pep Guardiola’s teams.

Laporte, whose contract expires in 2025, is currently considering his future. Perhaps Tottenham could offer him an unexpected opportunity to remain in the Premier League.

As a left-footed central defender, Laporte could theoretically be a long-term replacement for Clement Lenglet, who is currently on loan to Tottenham from Barcelona.

The outcome of Tottenham’s inquiry regarding Laporte is currently unknown. Moreover, SportsDias has learned that his preferred destination would be Barcelona, Lenglet’s parent club.

According to Football Transfers, Pau Torres of Villarreal could be an alternative for Spurs.

Ideally, Tottenham would prefer to invest in a young defender who has potential for the future.

However, Laporte, who will turn 29 before the next season begins, may not completely meet this requirement. Nonetheless, the possibility of adding a player with his experience and reputation is something that serious clubs should consider.

According to the report, the addition of a new defender to Tottenham’s team, whoever it may be, could create problems for Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Dier could still have a future at the club, but in midfield rather than defense. On the other hand, Sanchez might be at risk of being sold by the club.

Laporte would be an improvement over both Dier and Sanchez, while Guehi has exciting potential, and Torres may deserve his first opportunity in the Premier League.

However, Spurs must first determine who will be their manager after Antonio Conte before they can finalize their plans and identify their transfer targets for building their squad.
