Tottenham eyeing shock move to re-sign ‘frightening’ star sold during Nuno’s tenure

Tottenham eyeing shock move to re-sign ‘frightening’ star sold during Nuno’s tenure

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in re-signingfrom Sunderland, just over a year after selling the defender to the Black Cats.

Tottenham  released the 20-year-old before he could make his first-team debut. He was, however, a regular for the under-18s and under-23s.

Cirkin was sold to Sunderland just as he appeared to be getting closer to that senior chance. He has since made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side.

Cirkin did not come off the bench as Tony Mowbray’s side lost to Swansea City at the weekend. Nonetheless, he appears to be attracting Premier League interest ahead of the January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Tottenham is interested in acquiring his services.

Spurs intend to watch the England Under-20 international ahead of the winter transfer window. According to the Sun, Tottenham may look to bring him back and then sell him elsewhere.

Tottenham’s continued interest in Cirkin should come as no surprise. He is an extremely talented prospect. And the fact that he was sold may have surprised some.

Spurs is a well-managed club. So you’d think that part of the agreement would include clauses centered on how Tottenham would benefit if he was sold.

Former Sunderland manager Lee Johnson described his potential as ‘frightening.’ And he has now proven that he can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back.

Much will depend on how much Sunderland is willing to pay for Cirkin. However, attempting to bring him back to North London may be a wise move.
