Tottenham confirm fresh injury blow to add to Hugo Lloris as another star set for surgery
Tottenham have confirmed that midfielder Yves Bissouma will be sidelined for an extended period of time due to an ankle injury that requires surgery.
The club has upcoming league matches against Leicester, West Ham, and Chelsea, as well as a Champions League match against AC Milan.
Spurs are still recovering from the loss of captain Hugo Llrois for at least six weeks due to a knee injury when Bissouma is injured.
The midfielder was acquired from Brighton and Hove Albion for £25 million this summer, and despite a slow start to life in north London, the Mali international has made eight Premier League appearances and has shown flashes of the brilliant in-game reading and passing that prompted Tottenham to go all-out for him.
A club statement read: “We can confirm that Yves Bissouma is to undergo surgery on Friday to repair a stress fracture to his left ankle.
“A time frame for his return will be determined after surgery. He will begin rehabilitation with our medical staff as soon as possible. Get well soon, Yves.”
Thursday marked the return of Tottenham manager Antonio Conte from a gallbladder operation. He had missed Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
He will be extremely disappointed to have lost to Bissouma in a crucial month for their season.
Bissouma is likely to be replaced in his absence by Senegalese international Pape Matar Sarr and English youngster Oliver Skipp.
