Tottenham agree contract with Ange Postecoglou to make him their new manager
Tottenham have come to an agreement with Ange Postecoglou to become their manager. The confirmation of the deal is pending the settlement of compensation with Celtic, where Postecoglou currently has a one-year rolling contract.
The contract between Spurs and Postecoglou is believed to be for a duration of two years, with the possibility of extending it for an additional season.
The decision to appoint the 57-year-old has gained momentum following Celtic’s conclusion of the season, as they secured a domestic treble by defeating Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final.
Tottenham have been without a permanent manager since Antonio Conte departed in late March. Following Conte’s departure, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason took charge for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointing season for the club as they finished eighth in the league, resulting in them missing out on European competitions.
Tottenham had also considered Luis Enrique, the former manager of Barcelona and Spain, for the managerial position. Enrique was waiting to determine the level of interest from Tottenham while engaging in talks with Napoli.
Other candidates that Spurs had in mind included Arne Slot from Feyenoord and Julian Nagelsmann.
However, Nagelsmann is currently being heavily discussed as a potential candidate for Paris Saint-Germain, who are in search of a replacement for Christophe Galtier.
Postecoglou became the manager of Celtic in 2021 after his tenure at the Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos. During his time at Celtic, he achieved success by winning the league and League Cup in both of his two seasons, in addition to the Scottish Cup in the current season.
Prior to his stint at Celtic, Postecoglou had coaching experience with Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory. He also served as the head coach of the Australian national team for a little over four years, leading them to the 2014 World Cup.
