The top ex-US Olympic gymnastic coach is dead. John Geddert committed suicide on Thursday, hours after he was charged for human trafficking and abuse of athletes who were under his care.
Dana Nessel the Attorney General of Michigan in his statement said he was notified of the death of the former US Olympic gymnastic coach after his body was found on Thursday afternoon after he took his own life.
Nessel had hours earlier announced a 24 count criminal complaint against John Geddert who was the prime owner of a training facility in Michigan near Lansing where Larry Nassar who served as a gym doctor was convicted of sex offence.
Top ex-US Olympic coach used forced labour and human trafficking as part of his abusive and coercive coaching practices. He subjected his athletes to extreme conditions and forced labour, which made them suffer from injuries and harm.
He did not care. He neglected through coercion, intimidation and threats injuries reported to him by his victims and used physical force to make them perform to the level he demanded.
On Thursday morning, through a press conference streamed on social media, Nessel said that John Geddert was expected to surrender to authorities to be arraigned in court to face charges at 2:15 pm. The body of 63 years old was found at 3:24 pm at a highway rest outside Lansing.
The police are launching an investigation and no information has been released yet. The late John coached the Unites States gymnastic team to win Gold medal during the 2012 London Olympics.
However, the United States gymnastics had suspended Geddert in 2018 after he claimed he did not know about Nassar’s crimes. John Geddert immediately retired from coaching roles soon after he was suspended. The prosecutor charge against Geddert linked to Nassar was lying to the authorities that he was never aware of the doctor sexual abuse practices.
