Top 5 best English center-backs in the football right now based on ratings

Gareth Southgate officially named England’s roster for forthcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast, and there are a few noteworthy absences.

The frontline appears to have been chosen on merit, but the same cannot be said of the defense.

The Three Lions have not won a major international trophy since 1966, although they now have one of the best squads in the world.

The center-back position, in particular, is brimming with potential, which has not been the case in well over a decade.

However, some players have outperformed others this season.

On that subject, here are the top five English centre-backs this season.

5 Fikayo Tomori – 6.96/10

This season, Fikayo Tomori has been perhaps the best center-back in Serie A.

The Englishman, who joined AC Milan on a permanent basis from Chelsea last summer, has given the Rossoneri world-class performances.

It’s been 11 years since the 7-time European winners won the league crown, but due to Tomori & co., they’re in with a chance this year.

While Napoli, Inter Milan, and Juventus have played better defense, their performances in critical games have been crucial.

Much of this has been made possible by the English international, whose tactical acumen, speed, and intelligence have been outstanding.

The team has kept 9 clean sheets in his 22 league games, highlighting the 24-year-excellence. old’s

4 Reece Oxford- 6.96/10

Reece Oxford, a promising English star a few years ago, was said to have gone astray.

However, his efforts for FC Augsburg this season have demonstrated that the teenager is far from giving up on his career.

The 14th-placed Bundesliga club is struggling for survival this season, but it is due to inefficiency in attack.

The defense has performed admirably, conceding as many goals as third-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Oxford has been instrumental in this defensive resilience, as the 23-year-old star has demonstrated a high level of maturity and sensitivity both on and off the field.

His ability to pass the ball out from the back has also come in handy at times, as has his aerial skill in set-piece situations.

He, like Tomori, has been a standout for his squad this season but has not been named to the national team for the upcoming friendly.

3 James Tarkowski- 7.01/10

Burnley are now 19th in the Premier League table and fighting relegation, but things could have been far worse if centre-back James Tarkowski had not been available.

The Englishman has been a rock for his team throughout the years, and this season has been no exception.

Tarkowski, who is as tough as nails and as astute, is perhaps one of the top defenders from the lower half of the table this season.

It is also worth mentioning that he has appeared in 25 of the club’s 27 league games, demonstrating his value to the team. Furthermore, in the next weeks, the English center-back could be crucial to his team’s continued presence in the Premier League.

Tarkowski has been one of England’s greatest defenders this season, yet he has been left out of the squad for the forthcoming internationals.

2 Trevoh Chalobah- 7.01/10

Trevoh Chalobah is another potential world-beater who has come from Chelsea’s Cobham academy.

Thomas Tuchel gave the 22-year-old ace a chance in preseason and he has subsequently found his way into the senior setup.

Despite a pair of loan moves, Chalobah is now a versatile and mature centre-back with a fantastic age profile.

Tuchel has deployed him as a midfielder on a handful of times, so the defense can be structured around him.

With Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta’s futures at the club uncertain, the kid is poised to become a starter in the coming years.

This season, the Cobham product has made 26 appearances across all competitions and might have a great finish.

Despite his outstanding performances for the Blues, Gareth Southgate has yet to select him for the national squad.

1 John Stones- 7.21/10

John Stones, who has been outstanding for Manchester City this season, is the sole player on the list who has been called up for the upcoming friendly.

The reigning Premier League winners are looking to defend their championship this season, and Stones has been instrumental in reaching that goal.

Despite the fact that he has only played 11 league games, his contributions in key crucial games have been critical.

Furthermore, with Ruben Dias now injured, the Englishman is certain to play a vital role in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Stones has been the best English centre-back this season without a doubt. He is intelligent on the ball and wise off it.

His inclusion for the next friendlies is warranted, and he will almost certainly be one of the first names on the squad sheet at the World Cup if he maintains his excellent form.
