‘Too fast’: Giorgio Chiellini states Arsenal have a star who’s absolutely rapid, and ‘impossible’ to catch

Giorgio Chiellini, an Italian legend, has claimed that Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is ‘too fast’ for him.

The 38-year-old, who currently plays for Los Angeles FC in the MLS, has finally spoken out about his infamous challenge on Saka in last year’s Euro 2020 final between Italy and England.

Saka’s heart was broken when his penalty in the shootout at Wembley was saved, as Italy won the European Championships the previous year.

However, the Englishman could have had a say much earlier in the game.

Saka entered the game in the 70th minute as a substitute. On the right side of the field, he defeated Chiellini and was through on goal, but the Italian grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him down.

This became one of the most talked-about moments of last year’s European Championships, and Chiellini has now admitted he made an initial error.

However, he believes he did the right thing by pulling Saka back because the Arsenal player is ‘too fast’ and would have been ‘impossible’ to catch if allowed to run.

The 38-year-old told The Times: “I never thought this (pulling Saka back) could be the memory of the summer.

“For me, OK, I did a mistake and a foul in the smartest and best way possible because I think I can protect the ball and let it go out. But he passed me under my arm and the first thing I see is to try and grab him.

“Saka is too fast for me. If I started one or two moments before, I can run with him but if he goes, it is impossible. This is a good choice for me after a mistake.”
