Todd Boehly told key Chelsea acquisition would be ‘biggest transfer of the last 50 years’

It is impossible to ask a Chelsea supporter to select the club’s greatest ever signing.

During the Roman Abramovich era, Chelsea’s success has been bolstered by a number of exceptional acquisitions who have played crucial roles.

Frank Lampard, Gianfranco Zola, and Didier Drogba would all be popular possibilities, but Chelsea has been advised that if they can close a specific deal, it will be their largest signing in the past fifty years.

The individual in question is neither Aurélien Tchouaméni, Rafael Leao, Frenkie de Jong, or any other prominent Chelsea player.

Todd Boehly was informed that employing Christoph Freund as the Blues’ new sporting director would have been a ‘sensational’ signing.

Freund has been strongly connected to the vacant position at Stamford Bridge

Freund was strongly connected to the vacant position at Stamford Bridge, but he has stated that he will remain with RB Salzburg.

Freund, who was responsible for the signings of Erling Haaland and Sadio Mane, would have fit Boehly’s desire for a data-driven approach to Chelsea’s recruitment.

Former Salzburg manager Adi Hutter, who helmed the Austrian club from 2014 to 2015, believes that appointing Freund would have been a smart move for Chelsea.

“The way he deals with people is great,” said Hutter. “This would be the biggest transfer of the last 50 years and I think it’s sensational that he’s being traded at Chelsea.

“I wish it would be possible for him to take this step.”
