Todd Boehly told Chelsea have future Ballon d’Or winner and it’s not Enzo Fernandez or Reece James
According to boxing heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, the price paid by Chelsea for winger Mykhailo Mudryk in January was justified, as he believes the Ukrainian international has the potential to win a Ballon d’Or in the future.
Mudryk’s transfer was closely watched over the past few months, with Arsenal also showing interest in him.
Despite hints that he might join the north London side, Chelsea managed to secure his signature for a deal that could be worth up to £88.5 million if certain add-ons are met.
Despite the hype surrounding his high-profile transfer, Mudryk has faced some initial struggles as he adjusts to his new environment and works on his fitness.
However, in a recent match against Leicester, he showed glimpses of his potential and impressed his manager, Graham Potter, who has faith in his abilities and expects him to continue to improve.
“He’ll get better and better,” the head coach said after the match against the Foxes. “He’s a young player that hasn’t that much experience, so each game he’ll get better and better. His attitude is fantastic, he wants to help the team and work with the team. I’m delighted he got an assist and helped us.”
Since then, boxing champion and compatriot Usyk has had his say on the move, telling Parimatch: “No, it [Mudryk’s transfer fee] doesn’t [surprise me]. Everything has risen. Prices, and money, are a little higher than they were. I think he’s worth a little more than €100million [£88.5million] because I’ve been watching this guy.
“I saw him for the first time playing for the under-18s or under-19s team. The hairstyle that catches your eye, the tattoos, I mean, he was playing, and I was watching him, and I liked him. It seems to me that this guy can bring the fourth Ballon d’Or to Ukraine.”
While it’s uncertain whether Mudryk will reach his full potential during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, there’s no doubt that those who are familiar with him have a high opinion of his skills and predict a bright future for him. Many believe that he has the talent and potential to achieve great things in his career.
