‘Three points’: Steven Gerrard comments on Liverpool v Manchester City title quest
This weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will compete for the Premier League title, and Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa will play a significant role in determining where the trophy ends up.
In the Premier League table, Liverpool is now one point behind last season’s champions and current leaders Manchester City.
On the final day of the season, Klopp’s team will face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.
At the same time, Guardiola’s City will face Villa at the Etihad Stadium.
If Liverpool beats Wolves and City loses or ties with Villa, the Premier League trophy will be headed to Anfield.
And, judging on Gerrard’s words during the game against Burnley last night, he wants to win against City and give Villa fans something to be proud of.
Gerrard told BBC Sport: “Our supporters deserve it [a good performance against Manchester City on Sunday]. We’re 14th.
“The fans have been incredible, following us near and far. The least we can do is try to make them proud.
”We can’t control people asking us questions [about the title race]. We just have to focus on preparing in the best way we can. There are three points to play for.”
Manchester City, in our opinion, are the clear favourites to defeat Aston Villa and beat Liverpool to the Premier League title.
Yes, Villa are a strong team, but City are far superior and have some of the world’s best players.
They are also at home.
Now, we expect Liverpool to overcome Wolves, but we also think City will beat Villa.
